The students leaders in middle school division of Eco-Schools decided to encourage all of the middle school classrooms to lower the heating in their classrooms before all of the students and teachers left for their three week winter holiday. The students decided on this goal after talking with the Facilities Manager and learning that the heating in their section of the school couldn't be centrally lowered, as it is on the same thermostat as the business office, and those employees would still need heat as they would still be working during the winter break.

Saving energy by lowering thermostats
- Welke tips wil je andere Eco-teams geven over communicatie van jullie Eco-Team?: The students were worried about not remembering to remind all of the teachers that they needed to about lowering their thermostats. So they learned a tech tip- making "scheduled send" emails. So they wrote the email reminders to the teachers a week early, and instead of pressing "send" they clicked "scheduled send" for the emails to be sent to the teachers who asked for reminders about two hours before the end of the school day.
- Wat was het doel van deze communicatie-actie en wie wilde jullie bereiken?: The goal of the communication was to ask each classroom lower or turn off each radiator in their classroom on the last afternoon of school, before school let out for three weeks. They took into consideration that people can be quite busy the last days before a vacation, so the students also created a form for teachers to fill out, if they wanted to get a reminder on the last day of school to turn down their radiators.
- Hoe hebben jullie dit georganiseerd/met wie?: This energy action was a coordination between the middle school Eco team students, who determined the goal and made the poster and form, the Facilities Manager who provided them with the information about heating is organized at our school, and the Vice-Principal, to agreed to post their announcement in the weekly school bulletin.
