Schedule for Climate Week 2025
Different students in the Eco-Team with support from the school's Sustainability Coordinator and input also from Outdoor Education teachers in Primary, interns from the university, the school Secondary librarian and other staff. For the SDG Youth Café we also collaborated with the local organization SDG House Maastricht. There were several sessions of brainstorming with the students in the Eco-Team until they decided what they would like to do and focus on during Climate Week, celebrated by many institutions in The Netherlands.
- Welke tips wil je andere Eco-teams geven over communicatie van jullie Eco-Team?: For such a big event (one week long) that might disrupt lessons and other activities, planning needs to start by the end of the previous school year, if the event is in the first term. Especially if you are planning to invite external speakers, you must reach out to them months in advance to secure availability.
We primarily wanted to inform and involve students and their families (Primary kids and their families were invited to the film screening) as well as provide opportunities for students to engage in different aspects of Climate Action and be exposed to different perspectives. The lecture on Regenerative Economics by Jennifer Brandsberg-Engelmann, which was followed by a training for teachers, was a complete success in students participation.
- Hoe hebben jullie dit georganiseerd/met wie?: We usually start brainstorming in June for this event and when the new students join the school in September, we continue the brainstorming and planning. The students in the Eco-Team and the school's Sustainability Coordinator organize the logistics, trying to make the process fully collaborative and for the students to develop their agency and become responsible for their tasks.

Prime Month events line up
Friends of Dorothy, represented in the Eco-Team, is the Secondary students led group addressing LGTBQI+ issues in the school. In November they organized Purple Friday and in June they are organizing different events to celebrate Pride Month. Information has been shared in the students assembly, by email and through the school's screens.
- Welke tips wil je andere Eco-teams geven over communicatie van jullie Eco-Team?: Regular communication from the team to the broader school community is important for the stakeholders to understand that the work is ongoing and clear dates have been allocated to specific events with specific goals.
The goal is to inform the community, engage those students and staff interested in the topics and welcome new members in the community that might want more information about it. Educating the broader community about the historical struggle for rights is also part of the goals, especially in the context of The Netherlands.
- Hoe hebben jullie dit georganiseerd/met wie?: Students plan and self-organize their events, with support from a staff member who helps out if needed and mentors the team in understanding the processes involved in decision making, identifying team needs and supervising their planning and the logistics involved. Always to ensure that actual learning and reflection take place even when challenges appear.

Call for Second-Hand Market sellers
The activity is organized by the Parent Association in collaboration with the Eco-Team and any parent from Primary or Secondary, staff and/or older students can sell items they no longer wish to keep. The maintenance team assists providing desks for people to display their items and there is a commitment from all participants to clean after themselves.
- Welke tips wil je andere Eco-teams geven over communicatie van jullie Eco-Team?: Promote well in advance and inform families at the start of the year that this is indeed an opportunity in June to sell stuff they no longer use. Plan different scenarios for the logistics of the organization in case of weather conditions, for example. Unfortunately this year, the event has been moved indoors because of rain.
The main idea is to facilitate a space towards the end of the year where especially those families who are relocating can sell off their belongings within the school community. By organizing such an event we promote reusing and upcycling of items that are perfectly functional, instead of generating more waste when items can not be sold or donated. Unwanted leftovers can then be donated to a local NGO.
- Hoe hebben jullie dit georganiseerd/met wie?: The Parent Association manages communications for this event through their many platforms and Class parent rep WhatsApp groups. The poster was also shared in the school's newsletter and through the screens at school. A link was shared weeks in advance for people to register so the logistics can be arranged regarding the space and the tables/other required.

Waste Management Plan for departure of our Year 13 residential students
Members of the student-led Environmental Action Group (EAG) and student floor representatives of the Residential Student Council met to brainstorm a strategy aimed at reducing waste while ensuring more re-usable items (clothes but also stationary) could be collected than in previous years. Once they had designed a plan they met with the Sustainability Coordinator to agree on the final timings and what people would be responsible for what activities during those dates.
- Welke tips wil je andere Eco-teams geven over communicatie van jullie Eco-Team?: Start your planning early so the coordination is clear and communicate repeatedly, boosting the team spirit and urgency for action. Otherwise (even then), some team members do not show up when they are really needed and the work is not equally distributed.
The Eco-Team wanted to firstly inform the departing students so they could be part of the solution of separating waste correctly and giving them the opportunity to donate items they could not travel back home with. We also informed the residence mentors, the facilities/maintenance team (so they knew we were taking the lead and responsibility on this matter) and the rest of the staff so there weas "moral support" and encouragement. The Year 12 residential students and other day students in the Eco-Team were also informed to help out with the collection and processing of the items. In the past, a skip was brought to campus to collect all the waste generated by the departure of the graduating residential students in May, which unfortunately meant that little separation of waste took place at that moment. We believe the goal of reducing waste not being separated was achieved, however we need to address the issue of needs and wants as a community, in order to reduce consumption.
- Hoe hebben jullie dit georganiseerd/met wie?: Students led with support from Sustainability Coordinator (staff) and other staff that provided car rides to deliver the collected items or collection materials to receive the clothes. The leadership, maintenance team, residential mentors and other staff were informed to keep the debate of textile over consumption alive and facilitate the logistics.
