This project was initiated by a Science teacher four years ago and in the last 2 it has grown in exposure and has gained additional funding to promote basic mathematical and chemistry skills among students. Students of the Environmental Action Group (EAG) were concerned about cooking oil being discarded in the residences and not always recycled and saw it as an opportunity to join forces with the soap-making team of students so that cooking oil could be depurated and used as one of the components in the soap-making process.

Soap-making with recycled cooking oils
- Welke tips wil je andere Eco-teams geven bij het organiseren van een activiteit/evenement?: Once again, communication and collaboration skills are improved and developed through this process because they are essential for the success of the project. Having opportunities for students and other members of the Eco-Team to brainstorm together in order to identify challenges and also look for solutions is a great way to strengthen our Eco-Team, foster initiative and developed more shared ownership and agency for the students involved.
- Onderwijstype: Voortgezet onderwijs
- Waarom zijn jullie hier trots op?: We are actively transforming waste (cooking oil) into beautiful soaps and since the other necessary ingredients (especially essential oils) are costly, by selling the soaps during school events we have money to invest in the new materials needed. This project fosters partnership among members of the Eco-Team (different groups of students as student floor reps in the residences, the soap-makers and the environmental action group).
